I was staff photographer at NME and Sounds from 1980 to 1988, photographing the bands that defined the decade.

An extraordinary, unseen print from my 1986 session with Robert Smith of The Cure at the Shoreditch studio in London. Closing out the small archival series with a quiet, introspective fraction of a second by the pillar, this frame has remained in my archive ever since. This hand-crafted silver gelatin print captures the raw, unguarded moments of an icon away from the main spotlight, printed directly from my original negatives.
